Replacement of the pyruvate oxidation factor by carbon dioxide.

چکیده
The catalytic r81e of the pyruvate oxidation factor (1, 2) in the production of active acetate for lipide synthesis by lactic acid bacteria has been described by Snell and Broquist (3). In the course of a survey of the pyruvate oxidation factor (POF) and acetate requirements of a collection of lactic acid bacteria, several strains were found that required either material for growth on gluconate, but grew well on glucose in their absence. On gluconate media these substances could be replaced with either bicarbonate, malate, or succinate.

Core–shell titanium dioxide /carbon nanofibers decorated nickel nanoparticles as supports for electrocatalytic oxidation of ethanol
Abstract Recently alcohol fuel cells has been increased consideration because of their environmental friendliness, high energy conversion efficiency and low emissions. Many effort have been made to improve the electro-oxidation performance of alcohols such as methanol, ethanol and propanol. In this work, a new method for ethanol oxidation based on core–shell titanium dioxide / carbon nanofib...
متن کاملAcetaldehyde oxidation in the absence of pyruvate oxidation factor.
The pyruvate oxidation factor (POF) is required by Streptococcus faecalis, strain 1OC1, in order to oxidize pyruvate to acetate and CO2 using oxygen or another molecule of pyruvate as the oxidant (O'Kane and Gunsalus, 1947, 1948). In order to gain some insight into the role of pyruvate oxidation factor other pyruvate reactions and acetate-producing reactions are being examined. No reliable meth...
متن کاملCofactors of the phosphoroclastic reaction of Clostridium butyricum.
The degradation of pyruvate, in the presence of phosphate, to acetate, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen by cell-free extracts of Clostridium butylicum was described by Koepsell and Johnson (1). Later acetyl phosphate, the labile precursor of the acetate, was shown to be produced (2, 3), and phosphotransacetylase was shown to be present in the cell-free extracts (4). This reaction is, at least, supe...
متن کاملTHE ACTIVATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE AT A MAGNESIUM (1 00) SURFACE THE ROLE OF OXYGEN TRANSIENTS
X-ray photoelectron and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopic (XPS-HREELS) studies have shown that the adsorption of carbon dioxide at Mg(100) surfaces at 80K is followed by a dissociative reaction leading to the formation of a metastable surface carbonate above 80K. The formation of a carbonate species is proposed to proceed through oxidation of C0 (g) by an active oxygen su...

Bacteriol. 85:967-975. 1963.-The BR factor, which is replaceable by lipoic acid, was shown to be required for the decomposition of lactate by Butyribacterium rettgeri. Since the factor was not required for the fermentation of pyruvate or glucose by this org...
